There are many things to do in Kigali like visiting Bumbogo-Rwanda’s National Museum which has a collection of artifacts from around various parts of Africa. A visit to Nyamata Genocide Memorial Centre will give you an insight into what happened during those dark days. You can also go on safari tours that take you through Parc des Volcans, Nyungwe Forest National Park and Akagera National Park.

History of Rwanda

With its capital, Kigali, located on a plateau between steep hills and volcanoes, and landlocked by Tanzania, Burundi, Uganda and Congo, Rwanda is one of Africa’s most densely populated countries. This small country—almost twice as big as Denmark—only became independent in 1962. In 1994, after years of ethnic conflict that killed more than 800,000 people (about 20 percent of its population), it emerged from genocide to become one of Africa’s safest and fastest-growing economies. Today Rwanda is home to an incredible amount of biodiversity: It has over 500 species of birds alone!
